XMU COMI organizes forums of World Ocean Week 2017
On November 3, the curtain was lifted on the World Ocean Week 2017 (hereinafter, WOW 2017) in Haicang District, Xiamen. The Coastal and Management Institute (hereinafter, COMI), on behalf of Xiamen University, is one of the organizers of the forums – 2017 XMU International Ocean Forum & Blue Economic Partnership Forum as well as two important sub-forums. The major forums of WOW 2017 are focused on the theme “actively participating in global ocean governance and jointly promoting development of a blue economy”. As one of the organizers, COMI brought a professional technical team, offering quality services including forum hosting, recording and summarizing and providing a strong technical support for the smooth running of the forums.
On November 4, the 2nd International Forum on Marine Disaster Prevention and Reduction, one of the sub-forums organized by COMI, took place in Xiamen. The forum, with its focus on the countries along the “Maritime Silk Road”, attracted about 90 attendees including experts, scholars, technicians and reporters from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Iran, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the United States and China, as well as XMU teachers and students, who gathered under one roof, engaging in a heated discussion on the hot issues related to “Global Climate Change and Marine Disaster Prevention and Reduction”.On the same day, COMI organized the other sub-forum, the 2nd International Marine Affairs Conference on the theme of “Paths to realize the sustainable development of the oceans and seas by 2030: regional experience”, which was participated by about 60 guests from Malaysia, the United States, the Philippines, Indonesia, the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong.
This time COMI continued to play an important supporting role in WOW 2017 by providing technical support to the major forums, organizing high-quality high-level sub-forums, which have enriched the Week’s academic section, in the meantime, showcased to the guests from across the world the glamour of Xiamen University.
