XMU successfully wraps up 52nd Sports Meeting

XMU kicked off its 52nd sports meeting on November 3, marking the comeback of the most exciting annual activity for students and faculty this year. The newly upgraded playground of Yanwu exuded vibes of joy and fun on the sunny morning when the faculty gathered to observe the grand opening of this annual event. Party Secretary Zhang Yan, President Zhang Rong, Vice Party Secretary and Vice President Li Jianfa, Vice Party Secretary Lin Dongwei, Vice President Zhan Xinli, Ye Shiman along with other school leaders, graced the ceremony by their presence.

  

At 8:30, the uplifting music of the Sportsmen March echoed in the stadium and kick-started the march-in ceremony. Athletes from various colleges and schools paraded into the stadium with their heads held high at an orderly pace, brimming with youth and vitality. Each phalanx showcased their own unique culture with their fancy costumes and creative performance which caught the spectators’ eyes and drew waves of applause and cheers. After the flag-raising ceremony, president Zhang delivered the opening statement wherein he stressed the importance of sports for the whole nation, and reviewed XMUers’ splendid record in varied sports games over the past year. He conveyed his best wishes to the athletes, hoping they could achieve the best results by fully showcasing the indomitable spirit of sportsmanship in the upcoming competitions in the newly refurbished sports field.


 

The ensuing performance brought the ceremony to the climax, demonstrating the spirit and morale of XMUers. The Martial arts performance sparked an eruption of cheers from spectators. Over a thousand players in white presented a fabulous show of plank exercise, the visual effects of which were just stunning. An eye-feasting aerobic dance garnered plaudits from spectators for their highly stylized and synchronized movements.


 

During the two-day sports meeting, our athletes demonstrated the true meaning of sportsmanship with their passion and striving spirit. The young and resilient XMUers competing in diverse sports best defined the school's motto Pursue excellence and strive for perfection. After rounds of fierce contests, the School of Economics captured back-to-back team championship with a total score of 5183followed by the School of Management and School of Humanity. The School of Information Science and Engineering, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and College of Physical Science and Technology successfully secured their position in top six. In addition, the PE Morality Award this year went to the School of Management and School of Humanity and other six colleges. Vice Party Secretary and Vice President Li Jianfa presented the awards to winning teams.
