On October 25, the summing-up meeting of the 3rd Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (hereafter, the 3rd Competition) and the preliminary training course for the 4th Competition took place in Xiang’an campus, Xiamen University. Lin Dongwei, XMU deputy secretary of the party committee shared the experiences on behalf of the school. Xie Youping, director of the Students’ Affairs Department of Fujian Province, took the chair and presided over the meeting.

Zhang Rong delivered a welcoming speech. He said this competition is an important event that has risen to the occasion when China is implementing its innovation-driven development strategy. It is not only a competition for college students, but also a firm handhold by which to deepen the educational reform on innovation and entrepreneurship, a key link closely integrating production, education and scientific research, and an important platform for higher education to play a leading and supporting role in both economic and social development.

Zhang added that since the dawn of the 21st century, XMU has invariably pushed ahead with the educational reform, with its main focus on raising students’ consciousness of innovation and entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, the school regards innovation as one of the essential qualities of the college students of today, and incorporates entrepreneurship in its talent training process and will promote the education on innovation and entrepreneurship as a proactive response to the innovation-driven development strategy of the country. Next year, XMU will play host to the 4th annual contest, which mirrors the trust placed in XMU by the Ministry of Education and Fujian province and their full recognition for XMU’s effectiveness and efficiency in its educational reform. As per the request to “make it super, superb and superior”, XMU will do its utmost to run the 4th Competition well, inviting varied universities in Fujian province to be good hosts for the grand event.

Xue Weimin summarized the 3rd Competition and analyzed the problems and shortcomings with Fujian players in this contest. He said the competition indicates a novel breakthrough in quality education. Now this event, as one of the most influential contests, has extended its coverage to all the universities within Fujian Province and has become an important carrier and a firm handhold by which to deepen the tertiary educational reform on innovation and entrepreneurship, and a key link combining production, education and scientific research and an important platform for higher education to play a leading role in both economic and social development.
