XMU wraps up military drill for freshers of 2017

On the morning of September 29, the closing ceremony of 2017 freshmen's military training was held in Xiang'an campus. The leaders of the military trainer troops, Xiamen garrison and Xiamen University attended the grand ceremony, including XMU Party Secretary Zhang Yan, Vice President Han Jiahuai, Assistant to the President Qiu Weijie and Chen Guang. 




 

Accompanied by the majestic national anthem, the ceremony commenced. At the outset, Party Secretary Zhang Yan reviewed the troops of the freshers. Then started the march-past, the students advanced in square-shaped formations, shouting slogans at the top of their lungs, striding with their heads held high past the podium one by one.




 Following the march,  the freshers brought an eye-dazzling performance covering a wide range of  military skills they had learned from dagger fighting, bayoneting to marching and boxing, which evoked waves of cheers and thunderous applause, bringing the event to its climax.

  

Next, Chen Guang, assistant to the President, gave a closing address with regard to the military drill. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude and respect to all the training officers. Then he extended his cordial greetings to all those who had participated in the military drill, including leaders, instructors and students.

  

Chen Guang said that during the 15 days of military training, the students had tempered their willpower, enhanced the awareness of national defense and personally experienced the military life and culture. Everybody ought to keep up the good work, showcase their military style, strengthen their resolve to shoulder the responsibility of our country and our nation. He hoped that they could learn from what President Xi Jinping had said in his reply to the letter of the newly enlisted college students of Nankai University, that is to respond to national call, turning their patriotism into concrete actions, translating those fine qualities acquired from the military training such as commitment, perseverance, resilience and team spirit into the incentive to work harder in the university. Chen continued to exhort the students to stay true to the mission to move ahead, doing their part for the construction of a “Double Top-tier” Xiamen University and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.



After that, vice president Han Jiahuai announced  the winners of honors and awards in recognition of those outstanding officers, instructors and students. After the awarding ceremony,  Zhang Yan presented souvenirs to the training forces on behalf of the university.The closing ceremony drew to a clsoe in the impassioned march of Chinese People's Liberation Army.
