2017 BRICS Summit wrapped up on Sep. 5th. During the summit, volunteers from our university accomplished their missions with distinction. Their brilliant service has not only displayed Chinese culture to the world, but also showcased the uplifting spirit of the Chinese youth of today who are not afraid of taking responsibilities. During the Xiamen International Fair for Investment and Trade (hereafter referred to as CIFIT), 190 volunteers from the BRICS summit plunged into the volunteer services again with great vim and vigor. They served in such posts as liaison, translation, press center and brand operation, doing their part to ensure the smooth running of CIFIT, moving from glory to glory.

Wang Ying, a student from the College of Foreign Languages and Culture is one of the aspiring volunteers. During the BRICS summit, Wang Ying served in the press center, providing consulting service for reporters from around the world. Right after the summit, she started her new mission in CIFIT. “I’ve received intensive trainings for BRICS summit, including relevant know-how, body building, English training, first-aid training and many others, which has not only qualified me as a volunteer, cranked up my enthusiasm over volunteering, and also stood me in good stead in the long run. Besides, I have made friends with a lot of interesting people during my time there. It feels so good to be a volunteer. Long live the youth! ” said Wang Ying.

Other than the BRICKS that comes once in a lifetime, CIFIT is also a grand event held annually in Xiamen with a long history. I am honored to have served in both of them, which has greatly honed my skills in many ways and has attested my ability in the meantime. The experience I’ve drawn from the BRICS Summit made my volunteering job much easier in CIFIT. I can now handle problems in a more organized way, which makes me feel proud.” said Liu Qi from the College of Liberal Arts.

This time, Xiamen University has provided a total of 365 volunteers for CIFIT, among whom 190 had served in the BRICS Summit. With newly acquired skills and knowledge, these “Little Egret” volunteers will shine brighter and fly higher in their future undertakings .
