On the morning of June 27, the opening ceremony of the 13th Minnan Culture Study Summer Camp for Cross-Strait College Students was held at the Auditorium 220 of Song’en Building in Xiamen University. Wu Daguang, Vice President of XMU, and Wang Weikang, on behalf of the teachers from universities in Taiwan, delivered the opening addresses. Present at the opening ceremony were 80 teachers and students from 19 universities in Taiwan and 20 teachers and students from Xiamen University.

The Summer Camp of this year would last eight days from June 26 to July 3 this year. During  this period of time, the teachers and students across the Straits would attend a series of lectures on Minnan culture, take in the sounds and sights characteristic of Southern Fujian, and conduct a study tour to cities like Xiamen and Quanzhou. The Minnan Culture Study Summer Camp for Cross-Strait College Students has been successfully held for 12 times since 1999, having attracted the active participation of many young students from across the Straits, whose number has reached 1,700  in total up to now. The summer camp has provided a wonderful platform for exchanges between young students across the Straits, and the activities and results have been highly regarded by teachers and students in Taiwan, making the camp one of XMU’s brand projects for exchanges with Taiwan.
