2017 China-US Young Maker Competition held in Xiamen with great success

From June 23-25, the qualification trials (Xiamen region) for the 2017 China-US Young Maker Competition were held in Xiamen by Xiamen University under the guidance of the Education Department of Fujian Province. The China’s qualification trials for this competition were sponsored by the Ministry of Education, and jointly organized by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE), Tsinghua University and Intel Corporation etc.

  

Around 400 makers at home and abroad, including students from 24 universities and young business employees, enrolled for this qualifying contest. Only 107 members from 25 teams made it to the final round of the trials, vying for one gold, 2 silvers and 3 bronzes. Through heated competition, the joint team nicknamed “Deep water rescue” garnered the gold and took home the one and only award “Intel Technological Innovation Prize”, the members of the champion team included Wang Rongxin, a postgraduate from the School of Information Science and Engineering of XMU, Ye Meixia, an engineer from the West Straits Communication Engineering Center of XMU and Lin Zhongzhen as well as a postgraduate from Taiwan Cheng Kung University. Finally, a total of 6 winning teams have secured a place in the finals of the 2017 China-US Young Maker Competition which is to be held in Beijing in August on behalf of the Xiamen region.


  


XMU has started to play host to such events since 2015. And the teams with players from XMU that had been chosen and sent from Xiamen region have excelled at the finals and brought home accolades galore. Notably, the “Cellphone Robot”, which had been successfully incubated following its participation in the competition the year before last, has received millions in investment, and the manufactured products have been sold to 25 countries and regions. Besides, a company has been incorporated for the prize-winning "Smart Atomizer Partner for Children" from last year and the newly-registered startup is planning to crowdfund worldwide.  likewise, a business has been registered for the “Intelligent Programming Car” , which had been awarded the Egret Prize— “ TOP 100 Investment-worthy Projects of IOT ” at the annual ceremony of IOT China. Some teams of yesteryears showed their support to the competition at the Xiamen region by bringing over their successfully incubated products to the scene.
