On the afternoon of Jan. 9, the vice president of XMU Zhan Xinli met the delegation led by Dato’ Seri Xu Tingzhong, President of Penang Xiamen Friendship Association (PXFA). Also attending the meeting were the responsible officers of the Admissions Office and the School of Art of XMU.

In April, 2016, the first “Higher Education Fair” was successfully held in Penang, Malaysia. Penang Xiamen Friendship Association has planned to hold the second fair at the same time this year. The purpose of the visit by the delegation is to listen to what our school has achieved and what we may suggest as regards XMU’s involvement in the first Higher Education Fair, and discuss with us about preparations for the second one.

The vice president of XMU Zhan Xinli extended warm welcome to the delegation. She said the Penang is Xiamen’s twin town and the two cities have enjoyed close relationship and frequent exchanges. Last year, the delegation of XMU visited Penang to participate in the first Higher Education Fair and did a good job in publicizing Xiamen University in light of enrolment. She had a high opinion of the significance of the fair held in Penang in expanding the channels for tertiary education for local students and building the bridge between local students and universities in Xiamen. She also expressed her hope that the fair could play an active role in conducing to educational exchanges between the two cities.

President Xu Tingzhong briefly introduced the development of Penang Xiamen Friendship Association. The association was established in 2002, and has long committed itself to promoting exchanges and cooperation in education, athletic competition, economy and trade between two cities. Against the backdrop of the increasingly stronger aspiration of Malaysian students to study in China, the fair aims to encourage more students from Penang to further their studies in the universities in Xiamen. Meanwhile, the association also actively worked towards resuming direct flights between Penang and Xiamen in order to facilitate travel between the people of two cities.

At the meeting, the two parties had a fruitful discussion on such details as the time, form and schedule of the second Higher Education Exhibition.
