On Dec.13, the Management Conference of the National Natural Science Fund(hereafter referred to as "the Fund") as well as the Commendation Conference was held in Beijing. 300 delegates from 115 supporting institutions, 29 departments of science and technology and sectors of the fund committees at local levels attended the meeting. At the commendation conference, XMU was conferred the title of “Excellent supporting institution for the management of National Natural Science Fund from 2011-2015”. So far merely 20 supporting institutions in China have been granted the title of honor. The assistant president of XMU, Prof. Teng Bogang received the honor on behalf of Xiamen University.

The Fund committee assessed and selected the supporting institutions and individuals par excellence every five years for their efforts in the management of the Fund, their amazing achievements and their great contribution to deepening the Sci-Tech system reform and boosting the development of the Fund. To meet the demands of the selection, the supporting institutions need to set great store by the management of the Fund, and their performance will be assessed with such aggregate rubrics as system building, program management, funding scale, rejection ratio, funding ratio, and absence of scientific misconduct, etc.

National Natural Science Fund is a major source of projects and funds for the basic research in XMU. Since the beginning of “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, XMU has highly valued and prized all the work in relation to the Fund. Under the solid support of the leaders of XMU and the joint efforts of the research staff, Xiamen University has taken the management of the Fund to an unprecedented new height. During the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, XMU continued to build up the management systems of the Fund, beef up the scientific management  and strictly abide by the rules and regulations associated with the Fund. In the meantime, XMU has done a great job in meticulously organizing and strictly examining the applications for the fund to make sure that all the requirements are well met for the implementation of the projects. From 2011 to 2015, XMU has received funding of 1.126 billion yuan for a total of 1498 approved projects, far outperforming the average in terms of funding ratio and rejection ratio across China. In addition, XMU has also made a major breakthrough in establishing the project of developing the apparatus and equipment for scientific research.
