XMU President Zhu Chongshi heads delegation to seven universities in Britain, Italy and Spain

From Nov. 16 to Nov. 25, President Zhu Chongshi of Xiamen University, at invitation, headed a delegation on a working visit to Britain, Italy and Spain where they made trips to a total of seven universities and Fondazione Monserrate in Italy respectively. This high-level delegation of XMU hoped to expand and deepen cooperation and exchanges with these European universities and institutions through the means of a host of events and activities such as celebrating the “XMU Day”, attending the awarding ceremony of Honorary Doctorate, publicizing and promoting XMU Malaysia Campus, holding academic seminars, and signing a multiplicity of intercollegiate cooperation agreements.

  

The University of Southampton and Cardiff University in the UK are the key partners of Xiamen University in the G50 plan, and President Zhu made the trips to these two schools mainly to take part in a series of activities organized by the former to celebrate the “XMU Day” there, and attend the signing ceremony of the strategic partnership agreement with the latter. In addition President Zhu held serious talks with his counterparts of the two universities respectively on such issues as to how to expand the scientific collaboration between the teaching staff of both sides, jointly foster postgraduates and enlarge the number of exchange undergraduate students. Among other things, President Zhu also attended and watched the show given by the XMU art troupe on its tour to Britain which was funded by the Confucius Institute Headquarters.



In Italy, President Zhu visited Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Milan, both of which are the best universities in Italy, and with which XMU has already conducted some cooperation before in the fields of law, physics and linguistics at the levels of colleges and professors. This time, it was President Zhu’s first official visit to Italy representative of XMU at the highest level, with the purpose to establish a university-level partnership with these two schools. President Zhu had very productive meetings with his Italian counterparts aimed at elevating all-round bilateral cooperation and exchanges with these two universities, and he has signed the cooperation agreements respectively with the Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Milan.



In Spain, the delegation made trips to three universities there, i.e., Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Universidad Carlos III DE Madrid (UC3M) and Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), all of which are in a class by themselves in Spain and rank top in multiple disciplinary fields in the country.
