During the session, Prof. Wu Daguang first recalled having visited Malacca himself several times before, and then briefed the guests on some basic information of XMU, especially XMU Malaysia (XUM). Lastly, Prof. Wu extended the sincere hope that XMU and the State of Malacca could engage in more pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in technology, education and other fields, thus to bring the friendly relationship into a new phase.

Both Governor Carril and Chief Minister Edris made their case that Malacca sets a great store by its cooperation with China, and has established friendly provincial / state-level relationship with Guangdong Province. XMU, as a prestigious institution of higher education in China, has long enjoyed considerable influence and renown in Southeast Asia. XUM is of great significance to both sides in promoting friendship between China and Malaysia and enhancing bilateral cultural exchanges. The state of Malacca will be more than willing to cooperate with Xiamen University, Xiamen City and Fujian Province, and it is hoped that the development of XUM would benefit the whole state of Malacca. In return, Malacca will go to the mat for the construction and development of XUM.
