From November 5 to 8, Mr. Lin Dongwei, the XMU deputy secretary of CPC, and his delegation paid a three-day visit to Tamkang University (TKU), National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan. The delegation also met with the representatives of XMU alumni in Taiwan.

On November 6, the delegation was well received by TKU, the first sister school of XMU in Taiwan. It is with TKU that XMU has pioneered a cooperation agreement cross the Straits, enabling frequent exchanges and close partnership among students and teachers of the two schools. The visit happened to fall on the day when TKU was hosting its grand ceremony for the 66th anniversary. Flora Chia-I Chang, the president of TKU, extended a warm welcome to XMU delegation and looked forward to closer and deeper communication and cooperation with XMU. Mr. Lin Dongwei gave TKU his best regards on its 66th birthday and expected further communication and pragmatic cooperation between the two sides by exploiting each other’s academic strengths.

Next day, the delegation visited NCTU, and was received by its senior vice president Chen Chiun-Hsun. Both sides had an in-depth talk on an extensive range of topics. NTHU was the third stop where its senior vice president Hsin Shih-Chang welcomed the delegation and Mr. Lin Dongwei referred to the deep-seated ties between the two schools in the past and expressed the wish to enhance collaboration and exchanges between the two schools in the days to come. Hsin Shih-Chang hoped that NTHU could strengthen links with XMU in nurturing top-tier talents, EMBA and other programs. In the meantime, Mr. Hsin also held expectations for more substantive cooperation with XMU in other fields in the future.

On December 8, a special trip was made to the Taiwan Association of XMU Alumni, including the honorary chairman of the association Mr. Zhou Yongtang, the chairman Lin Meidong and executive deputy chairman Fang Yanling. Mr. Zhou has made multiple donations for XMU and has established a fund named after him for student loans and grants. At the advanced age of 93, Mr. Zhou still looked very hale and hearty, he took delight in sharing his campus life stories in XMU in days of yore and showed his concern for his alma mater. Mr. Lin, on behalf of XMU, showed gratitude to and best wishes for Mr. Zhou. The cozy gathering and the talk about the future of XMU wrapped up the delegation’s visit to Taiwan on a successful note.
