2016 International Aerial Robotics Competition (Asia-Pacific division) (IARC) was held at the stadium of Beihang University from September 23rd to the 24th. With excellent practical competence and steady performance, Team XMU Egret ranked second in test flight and third in overall performance.

First held in 1982, IARC is a global Smart UAV competition, which lays equal stress on research and engineering. This year, this event in Asia-Pacific division is held by Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Beihang University. It has attracted more than 140 competitors from many countries and regions, such as Iran, India, and Hongkong. The aim is still the seventh-generation mission raised by Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, which is to accomplish Shepherd Action through aerial robots. All teams are required to design a set of systems of aerial robots, which would be able to achieve full-autonomous obstacle avoidance, and the recognition and direction of seven moving objects within 10 minutes. This has been the third year for this mission, and despite the failures in North American division and Asia-Pacific division, the efforts by those participating universities have made the success closer. Moreover, the level of the mission has fully reflected the constant innovations of IARC on future technologies.
