On the evening of Feb.22 , the XMU Science and Arts Center lifted the curtain at a pace of adagio ma non troppo on a symphony concert jointly performed by the art teachers and students from Cardiff University and XMU who played to a full house echoed with loud cheers and stormy applause from the audience. The concert was co-hosted by the Southern Base of Confucius Institute Headquarters/ Office of Confucius Institute Affairs, XMU, the Art College of XMU and Cardiff University School of Music (CASM).  Mr. Lai Hongkai, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of XMU also attended the concert.

Actually, this music show is one of the exchange and cooperation projects catalyzed by the “Road Show” Art Troupe of the Confucius Institute. Its performers included the renowned pianist Mr. Kenneth Hamilton, who is also the dean of CASM, Mr. Mark Eagle, Principal conductor and Art director of Wales Symphony Orchestra, Conductor of Cardiff University Symphony Orchestra,  as well as 20 students from CASM. And the players on XMU’s part were Prof. Su Li, Dean of the Art College of XMU , Mr. Huang Fei, President of XMU Symphony Orchestra, and 13 students from the XMU Art College. After three days of intense rehearsals, mutual coordination and exchanges of both sides, a fantastic audio-visual feast was marvellously  presented that evening. The Confucius Institute has not only done a great work in spreading Chinese culture abroad, but it will also play an increasingly crucial role in introducing quintessential foreign cultures into China.
